E. Stewart Williams

E. STEWART WILLIAMS, FAIA

(November 15, 1909 - September 10, 2005)

Emerson Stewart Williams, FAIA was an American architect trained at Cornell University who arrived in Palm Springs in 1946 and joined his father and brother in the firm Williams, Williams & Williams. He became well known for “Twin Palms” the 1947 Frank Sinatra House in Palm Springs. This home was an influential early example of the Desert Modern Style. Among his other commissions were the 1954 Edris House, the 1960 Santa Fe Federal Savings and Loan Association, now the the Architecture and Design Center for the Palm Springs Art Museum, the 1961 Coachella Savings & Loan and the 1976 Palm Springs Museum of the Desert, now the Palm Springs Museum of Art.

In addition to the 1957 Kenaston House in Rancho Mirage, which is on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, Williams was the architect of the 1981 Annenberg Center for Health Sciences and the 1986 Heart Institute of the Desert, now the Eisenhower Lucy Curci Cancer Center.
