WILLIAM KRISEL, AIA

(November 14, 1924 - June 5, 2017)

William Krisel was born in Shanghai, China. As a child his family moved to Beverly Hills, California. He returned to China during WWII as an interpreter. He attended University of Southern California, graduating in 1949. Krisel formed a partnership with Dan Palmer, Palmer & Krisel Architects, which specialized in modern tract housing to satisfy the post war boom. Krisel collaborated with the Alexander Company and was responsible for 2,500 tract homes in Palm Springs, notably the 1960 Alexander Residence known as The House of Tomorrow.

In Rancho Mirage, Palmer and Krisel designed the 1957 Valley of the Sun tract with 15 homes in the modern style. At the 1958 Tamarisk Ranchos I, Krisel designed a mini-resort community of 16 homes with elevations that face inwards around a pool and shared gardens. Butterfly, gabled and shed rooflines with varied elevations create a distinctive appearance for each home.
