Rancho Mirage, CA – Preservation Mirage, the Coachella Valley’s newest preservation group is celebrating five years as a non-profit 501 (c)(3). From its early days as an informal group of midcentury homeowners to its incorporation in late 2017, the organization now has 530 members, doubling each year. One year after mailing out the Architecture Map to all Rancho Mirage residents – Preservation Mirage embarks on the next chapter of the preservation organization, which includes:

  • Securing a path forward to update the 20-year-old Rancho Mirage Historical Resources Survey

  • Continuing advocacy for the preservation of the historic Thunderbird Country Club Cottages

  • Expanded community outreach and educational programs

  • Producing an online version of the printed Architecture Map

  • Providing resources to Coachella Valley realtors through historic home research

  • Introducing a welcome mailer for new Rancho Mirage residents

With a refreshed mission statement, four new board members, seven clearly defined committees, and an updated website, Preservation Mirage is announcing new programs which include paid memberships and the re-introduction of in-person events.

“We’re very proud of the organization’s growth and the engagement from members,” said Melissa Riche, Founder, Education & Advocacy Committee Chair, and author of Mod Mirage. “Our goal is to invite the community to play a bigger role by volunteering for one of the seven committees. This will bring us additional expertise and impetus to achieve our goals.”

Preservation Mirage is launching four paid membership tiers, in addition to the free quarterly email newsletter, designed to support their advocacy & education goals while providing enhanced access to educational seminars, events, tours, cocktail receptions, limited edition merchandise, and other exclusive benefits being rolled out in 2023.

“These new membership tiers will allow us to offer unique opportunities to our donors while maintaining free access to our education & preservation content for the Rancho Mirage community,” said Scott Goldstein, Membership & Fundraising Committee Chair.

On Saturday, November 5th Preservation Mirage will resume in-person events with a cocktail party at the Hurd Residence at Tamarisk Country Club from 5 - 7 PM, with cocktails, wine, appetizers, and complimentary valet parking. Designed by C.H. Barlund and built in 1967, the home combines the design simplicity of Desert Modern with touches of the luxe formalism of the International Style to create an exceptional example of the Rancho Mirage country club aesthetic.

“We are excited to kick off the season at a gorgeous home in the perfect setting at Tamarisk Country Club,” said Dan Allen, Events Committee Chair. “We will introduce our new board members and unveil our full suite of programming for 2023.”

Tickets are $125 per person and go on sale October 6th: https://preservationmirage.org/events

ABOUT PRESERVATION MIRAGE

Preservation Mirage began as an informal group of midcentury homeowners that met to exchange ideas and information about owning and preserving midcentury architecture in Rancho Mirage, California. In late 2017, a board of directors was elected, and the preservation group became a registered 501 (c)(3) nonprofit. Its mission is to celebrate the architectural history of Rancho Mirage by promoting its protection and appreciation. We do that by advocating for the protection of significant architecture while providing a path for those seeking historic designations and raising awareness of the city's historic architecture by offering educational opportunities that enhance its appreciation. Preservation Mirage offers a suite of educational seminars, events, tours, cocktail parties, limited edition merchandise, and fundraising activities to help the organization achieve its goals.
